Your Lower Mainland Pet Photography FAQ

1. What if my pet is hyper, untrained, or shy?

This is one of the most common concerns I hear from clients, and the good news is: you don’t need a perfectly trained pet to get beautiful photos.

If your pet is high-energy, we’ll start with some fun action shots to help them get their energy out. Once they’re more relaxed, we’ll move into posed portraits. For shy pets, we work at their pace. I use a longer lens to capture natural candids while they warm up, and gradually move closer once they’re comfortable.

2. Where will the pet photo session take place?

Vancouver offers some of the most beautiful pet-friendly photo locations in Canada. Depending on your pet’s personality and your style, we can shoot at:

  • A local beach for a coastal vibe

  • Forested trails

  • Urban spots for something edgy and fun

  • Public park or garden

  • Your home or backyard for a cozy, familiar feel

I’ll help you pick the perfect backdrop that fits your pet and tells your story.

3. How long does a pet photography session last?

Most Vancouver pet photography sessions last about 60 minutes. That’s the sweet spot to keep your pet engaged without tiring them out. But I will always take as much time as needed to capture the perfect session.

If you have more than one pet, plan on a longer session. And if you're hoping to be in the photos too (yes, please!), we’ll make time for outfit changes and breaks to ensure everyone feels their best.

4. What should I bring to the session?

Here’s a quick checklist to help you prepare:

For your pet:

  • Favorite treats

  • Toys they love

  • A photogenic lead and collar or halter

  • Water and a bowl

For you:

  • Hairbrush or grooming items

  • Water

  • Extra outfit or jacket, something comfortable!

  • Accessories like hats or sunglasses

A little preparation goes a long way in helping everyone feel comfortable and confident.

5. How do I prepare my pet for the photoshoot?

Keep it simple:

  • Give them a good brush or bath before the session

  • Bring a clean collar/halter and lead that photographs well

  • Arrive 10–15 minutes early so they can explore around and settle in

  • Try a short walk or light play beforehand to burn off extra energy

  • Most of all, stay calm and enjoy the experience! Pets pick up on your vibe
