Why Choosing the Right Location Matters for Your Vancouver Pet Photography Session

And why we switched locations last minute to end up doing a beach senior session in White Rock.

When people first begin planning a pet photography session, they often think the most important part is choosing the prettiest location. While a beautiful backdrop certainly matters, the most meaningful images come from something far more important; choosing a place that feels like home to your dog.
As a pet photographer based in Vancouver, I believe every session should tell the story of the pet and family I’m photographing.
My goal is never to create cookie-cutter portraits in the same locations with the same poses. Instead, I take the time to learn what makes your pet unique, what places they love most, and how we can create artwork that feels deeply personal for your home.
When planning Roo’s session, I originally suggested a beautiful park filled with gardens and natural scenery. It would have created lovely portraits. But as I got to know Roo and her family more, I learned something important: Roo’s favourite place in the world is the beach.
That changed everything.
Roo is in her legendary years, and sessions like this carry even more meaning. There may not be endless chances to preserve these memories, so it was important to me that her session wasn’t simply beautiful, it needed to feel true to her. At the last minute, I changed our location to White Rock Beach, a place Roo knows, loves, and feels completely at ease.
The difference was immediate.

The moment her paws touched the sand, Roo came alive. She ran along the shoreline, smiled into the wind, and moved with the joy of a dog years younger. Instead of asking her to fit into a setting, we chose a setting that celebrated who she already is. Those are the moments that create unforgettable photographs.

This is why choosing the right location matters so much.
The best session locations are not always the fanciest or most dramatic—they are the places that hold meaning. The trail your dog walks every morning, the beach they race across with pure joy, the park where they feel free, or the backyard where they sunbathe beside their family. When a dog feels relaxed and happy, their personality shines through naturally, and that’s when the most heartfelt images are created.
My approach is always tailored to you and your pet. I take the time to understand your story so we can create photographs that feel genuine and become treasured printed artwork in your home for years to come.
Because the most beautiful portraits are not just about how they look, they’re about how they feel.

I’d love to guide you through creating something beautiful together. Let’s start planning your legacy session.
